I actually got an email from [email protected] as well , he sent me the exact same message that bob posted.
After claiming he paid, i found a "paypal legal notice" in my junk mail that said this:

Dear (name removed for privacy),

We really want this transaction to work out but since you are not ready to show your understanding and cooperation, we will have to take things up through the tough proper authorities. We believe you read our security measures and company policies message and you are only waiting to test the strength of our securities. By not responding positively to our email notifications and acting according to our instructions, You have violated our security measures and we will have your profile details and account details with us passed to the Federal Bureau Of Investigation, the Internet Fraud Crime Commission and the Australian Police Department so as to ease their stress of tracking you down and delivering proper justice on you.

As your payment company, we have our rules and regulations and we strongly believe that by you using our services, It means you agree to our terms and trust our guide for an efficient and safe transaction. Obviously, you have failed to follow our instructions and proven to be recalcitrant to our guides therefore we assume you to be either a non cooperating customer or one of the numerous online fraudsters PayPal is working hard to put an end to.

According to the safety measures we take when handling transactions involving huge sums, We shall not fail to proceed into the next step which is our legal actions proceedings. This message will be our last alert to you and if we do not read from you within a short period, then be sure to receive visitors fighting internet corruptions from all governmental agencies in your local area and international standards.

As PayPal is not a hostile company, we are giving you a 24hours grace to get back to us with the requested details. If by the end of the given period, we have not received the requested details from you, we reserve the right to infringe and forward your information on file with us (which includes your contact details, DOB and telephone lines) to all governmental agencies backing us, this also includes the immigration officials of your country and we shall as well close your PayPal account.

This message is not a threat by PayPal but a legal step that we take in order to ensure a safer environment for all our users.

We request for the Scanned Receipt of the western union money transfer to prove sending of the shipping fees in less than 24hours and once we receive these details, we will release your funds into your account or otherwise face the consequences of LEGAL ACTION.
This is done in accordance to our policy and in other to protect both the seller and buyer.

I also got another person named melaine west who is a pretty well known scammer and James powel, I was also listing my item on gumtree, they texted me with phone numbers with the area code "131"

"for the convenience of both parties i have organized with someone to come pick it up as soon as we're through with payment... Will you be able to help me wire the Shipping fess via western union money transfer to my shipper cos the total payment which include the shipping charges and some other commissions needed to get the ESP to its destination would be issued altogether through PayPal

i will include the $600 they charged to pick it up and take it to my home(1st class treatment), to the payments i will send through paypal after i have made the payments... I could have done this on my own but I'm presently offshore and incapacitated to send money through western union,i tried to pay online but i will need a credit card which i didn't bring along, and there is no post office around me here the only means I can do this is by paypal, and paypal is well aware of this, and that's more reason why they recommended I include the shipping fee"

Same thing happened to me.. two buyers by the name of Kirsty Lunney - [email protected] and Desmond Piier - [email protected] who then actually had the signature Jerry Smith, 91 Woolich New Rd, Woolwich, London - go figure.. I had an air con for sale and they both had sent me emails for it (in the middle of the night) there was no mention of any shipping fee until after I had sent the Paypal invoice and then they'd said they had paid extra to Paypal for the shipping which I had to pay. Well I emailed back saying not a hope I was spending my own money before receiving anything, was suspicios enough about the whole thing then this morning out of curiousity i googled the address in KL they had given and this came up. I just feel sorry for people who arent as aware of this kind of stuff as we are.

We have recently gone through the same thing, we posted a boat for sale on Guntree/Ebay and received two offer of interest within hours. We weren't signed up to Paypal but the buyer insisted we use this as the method of payment. So after contact Paypal obtain all details and terms & conditions and clarified that the email address ([email protected]) was a valid Paypal customer decided to go ahead. When we received the email from [email protected] ® <[email protected], that the buyer has paid for the boat plus the merchant fees and add the shipping fees coming to a grand total approx $20k, red flags went up straight away as we were advised Paypal has a maxium limit and this exceed it. Next we received the email advising we had to go and deposit the shipping fees via a western union tranfer, we sent this joker Riley Crawford an email pay your our shipping fees. He responded with this is how they told me it had to be done due to the amount it more secure and just follow the prompts. We sent response back to both these emails that in no certain terms that we would be paying any dollars out of pocket. Within seconds of this we received an email headed *** LEGAL ACTION NOTIFICATI?ON *** will start in 24 hours, which was much the same as the email address to Yinny Wong.
I responded back advising "Due to my working profession in the legal industry, I welcome any legal proceedings brought forward by a non existent transaction as no goods or monies have been exchange by either party and it will be rigorously defended. We have also notified the correct authorities and Paypal and forward all your correspondence and details along with this so called buyer Riley Crawford details. To which we received the below email, you'd think these jokers would give up as just tonight we have received another suspicious email interested in our boat !!!!

I have also had this scam tried on me.

The fake buyer contacted me via mobile first (as i stupidly put my mobile number up on the ad)...although i assumed Gumtree would have made users click to reveal that and not leave it open to a crawler bot.

I then sent an email reply.

Long story short:

Things to look out for:
1. Insists on using PayPal for the transaction
2. Is super keen to purchase the item
3. Expects you to take down the ad before the transaction completes

Here is a transcription of the last email i recieved from the fake buyer:

"i would have love to come for the inspection prior to the purchase but
i am restricted by work but never mind as i am really keen about the
purchase and payment will be made as soon as i have an order from u to
go ahead with the payment..the reason why i insisted on paypal was
because of my work restriction and all that.i would have to love to do
cash or a direct bank transfer but i dont have access to all that
here..i will only be doing paypal because i have my paypal account
attached to my bank account.. pls set up an account so that we can
move ahead with the sales. thanks so much for ur anticipated co
operations. pls get the ad off the internet as i am very keen and
serious about the purchase.. u can as well mark it as sold..i will be
waiting to hear from u soonest..i have a pick up agent that will
handle the pick up process

i am much more keen mate and i will be more than happy to put the
payment through as soon as i have ur paypal email address.. pls kindly

As for the issue of my details,transferring the name of ownership and signing of all paperwork will be done by the pick up agent after you have the payment from paypal. so you don't have to worry about that. Go ahead and send me your paypal email address and the account name to remit the funds asap, then, the transport agent shall come for the pick up at your address after you received the payment. Hi mate, I have just completed the Payment and i hope you would have received the confirmation emails from Paypal regarding the payment already, I advice you to check both your inbox and junk/spam folder if in case you haven't, I included all the additional fees/surcharges as advised by paypal, I added an extra 2,100$ for the pick up fee. According to paypal's instruction while i was transferring the funds, you'll have to transfer the extra amount through Western Union right away to the shipping company's HEADQUARTERS in Malaysia (where they confirm all Commission Payments so that they can be able to schedule a suitable Pick Up Date and Time immediately) and your funds will be released to your account immediately you verify the transfer with paypal by sending them the MTCN code which will be given to you at western union when you send funds upfront. Then shipper can come over for the pick up when funds are fully released.
I'll need your address where they have to come for the pick up. find below, the shipping agent info needed to pay the fees through Western Union money Transfer.

I was selling a vehicle on a New Zealand Trading website and a person by the name of Dolton Hindmarsh got in touch with me and was very convincing. However when it came to the transaction a confirmation from a spoof email from "PayPal" said he had paid and money had been deducted from their account. They required me to send money via western union to the shipping company to the same guy in all these posts Navinkumar Goppu. I called my bank to check details and they advised me this was a scam. I was very upset and so searched the shipping name and got this website. I also emailed PayPal's fraud team on [email protected] forwarding them the email and they have confirmed this is a phishing email. Sick people are out there who reap the rewards of some poor innocent persons misfortune. Honestly they should go and get real jobs.

Scammers are used to being told off, and it doesn't effect them at all. They just keep looking for victims they can scam. It may feel good to vent at them, but it has no effect on their scamming.

Because I have not done anything with the payment to the shipping agent, I have now received a "LEGAL ACTION NOTIFICATION" saying they will have my profile and account details with them passed to the Federal Bureau of Invistigation.
