does this sound familiar?

Hello I have just been directed to this site from 419eaters. I have recently received emails from someone whose profile was on a dating site. I spotted it as a scam after the second email, due to the complete change in writing style and the usual strange English language used. I havent as yet been approached for money or anythng like that but Im not sure if I should continue with it to see what happens and thus identify another scammer. The person has stated that he works in Nigeria but lives in UK and is returning soon. I have received a few emails each day over three days. Each one has had noticeable differences in style and language which made me think more than one person is writing or perhaps using different scripts! What info should I post here so that it can be recognised?

I'm glad to hear you found out it's a scam and that you want to post it online so others can be saved too. It would be great if you could post all the mails you received of him so far, along with his email adress. Please edit out your own name, though.

As you are mailing with this scammer from your personal account I strongly advise you to just stop all contact with him. Your intentions are noble, but we don't want people to send mails to scammers with their own adress. What you are talking about is called scambaiting, something our friends at eater are good at. They all 'bait safe', with special precautions.

But again, as you are mailing him with your real info, just stop all communications. Stop replying and just delete any further email without even reading them.

Hi fried chicken and welcome to ScamWarners.

As Michael has said, please do not continue to correspond with the scammer. If you would like to post the emails you do have from him, even just the first one or two because those are certain to be copied and pasted for use with other victims, that would definitely help others as the information will show up in searches.

To post, include the email with header from the scammer, making sure to remove any instances of your own name or email address. If you need help retrieving the email header just let us know.

I will take heed and no more contact! I have a photo which was sent, I have searched the photos online but nothing matches so perhaps it is new. I dont know how to find the header. If you can help with that I will certainly post up the original emails and photo sent.

Can you tell us your email provider (not your email address) please? The method for showing the full headers varies.

Click on "Options" tab on the top navigation bar.
Click on the "Mail" link on the navigation bar on the left.
Click on the "Mail Display Settings" link.
Change the "Message Headers" option to "Full".
Click the "OK" button.

Thanks for this but as I have the new version of hotmail, the proceedure has changed! You are supposed to be able to right click ont he message to see the details but its not working properly! I have posted on the hotmail forum for a solution! Will update this when I know!

Thanks for posting the email, fried chicken. The problem you're having with hotmail headers is widespread. I've not heard of any solutions yet.

Thanks Jillian, will follow that and post the photo! Hotmail online help has over a thousand unanswered help postings, the last time I looked! I think there are major issues with the new system!

Romance scammers are patient; they will wait for weeks and even months until you get involved emotionally,then they will hit you with the money requests. He’s probably one scammer who copy and paste from different scripts.
