I'm sorry to hear your story. As you say it's not just the money but the emotional impact. There are honest people out there, and the scammers that target dating sites aren't typical. The photos are undoubtedly found on the web somewhere.

thank you for your replys.. his email address that he uses [email protected], i have been in touch with someone from the military and he is looking into it for me, i got his details off a genuine army site .. i will contact the dating site to give them my suspicions .. thank you for your comments ..

The area of romance scams isn't my area of expertise and I know little about romance websites (so I'm a fat lot of use :lol: ) but I would have thought that it would be sensible and show care for users, if all messaging included a warning and link to prompt a user to refer to an information page if they ever receive a request for money.

The information page could go through a checklist of warning signs to watch out for - the major one being any request to make payment by Western Union or MoneyGram, aside from warning anyone paying a starnger money, who is known only through the site.

This seems so sensible and easy to me and I understand that most sites don't like to admit that they have a problem, but is it fair and good for their reputation to wash their hands of the problem ?

i have just used the tineye on the pic i had for my so called dream person and it came up with a hit, he has different name, DOB, etc ... it just made me smile so much ... thank you for your help on this site .. debs
