The person using the address [email protected] is not an American soldier. He is an African scammer, using stolen photos of an American soldier, and a fake name, in order to steal money from women. The same is true of. It is an address created by an African thief for purposes of scamming.

A few key things you should know:
-Soldiers are not deployed to Afghanistan for as long as 22 months. Troops are deployed for no more than a year before they are sent home.
-You will NEVER request anything on behalf of a soldier. That includes phone, leave, retirement, benefits, and ANYTHING else. These requests only exist in the imaginary world of the African scammer. The moment a "soldier" asks you to fill out a request form or to email his commanding officer or a department in the US military, you know for certain that he is not a soldier, but is an African scammer. Sometimes scammers will give some made-up explanation of how this is a new rule as a result of some kind of problem, but it will NEVER be policy. The entire foundation of the US military is built on the chain of command, and it requires that soldiers apply for all of these things themselves. Even wives, parents, and children of soldiers are not allowed to make these requests for soldiers.
-Soldiers DO have access to their bank accounts. They DO NOT have children sitting back home with only a nanny (it's not allowed.) They DO have the ability to contact their loved ones without having to subscribe to or buy special phones. However, they have a lot of responsibilities, and limited free time to communicate. They spend that time communicating with their loved ones, not random women or men they have never met. They DO NOT have time to hang out on dating sites and have long chats with strangers..

I believe my mother is being scammed. She has fallen in love and tells me she is going to marry a sgt. Of the US Army. Has anyone heard of a Wendy Neville?? His Facebook only has one friend, my mother :0(
I have found western union money transfers recently to various places, eg: Texas and also Nigeria! Any information to help my mother realise she is being scammed is appreciated.

There's a number of profiles for "Wendy Neville" on Facebook and from a quick look, none of them look like military ones. Can you link to the particular one?

The Western Union payments are proof on their own that your mother is being scammed - real US soldiers do not need to resort to asking for money from people they have never met.

You need to find out from your mother why she sent the money and then we can probably use that as proof that she is not dealing with a real soldier. This page http://www.cid.army.mil/romance_scam.html is a US Military page with details of the common scams and what to look out for.

Also, if you can get hold of any of the photos he is using you may find them used previously by reverse searching them on Google or TinEye.

Also, searching any email addresses and also content from his emails (particularly any that look scripted or are poems) may bring up hits on previous scams or where they have been stolen from.
