Room for Rent Scammer - [email protected]

The phone number is real--it's a redirect number. 44-70 numbers don't actually go to UK--the calls are automatically forwarded to phones virtually anywhere--including Africa. Calls to these numbers are pricey.

Basically the scammer has gotten the (free) number to pretend he is in UK, but the call is being forwarded to his cellphone in Africa.

The problem is, the UK police can't do anything about it, because the scammers are nowhere near the UK. They are in internet cafes in Africa or Malaysia, way out of the UK police jurisdiction.

It`s unbelieveable! He or she came across me again... I can`t look for flat without finding him/her . The ad was slightly different but the pictures were too proffessionals so I sent a message and I got exactly the same email like before just now from a different email addres:

Thanks for the interest you have in my flat. My flat is still available for rent and here are the necessary things you need to know about the rent and deposit.

Rent : £ 300.00 pcm
Minimum Stay : 1 Month Security Deposit: £ 500.00 (Returnable at the end of a week stay in my flat)
Utility bills inclusive ( water, gas, council tax, TV license and wireless Internet) Utility Cost : £ 0.00 pcm

However, At this stage that you want to rent my flat, i need to know some few question about you. Can you take care of my flat as it is? How many months do you intend to rent and pay for? Do you have references in glasgow?Kindly let me know when you will be able to come for the viewing of the flat.I will be looking forward reading back from you and i will like to know where you are coming from to stay in my flat.

Just to say they are now advertising various flats in Guildford (there is another thread on here that mentions that too, but just wanted to flag it here in case anyone misses that one!) - ad on Gumtree. All too good to be true so I sensed a scam but emailed them last night and had a reply this morning identically worded to the examples here. Googled Joy Greg and found all this information straight away - thanks so much for the heads up, hopefully it will prevent people falling for this!
