Hi Tess welcome to ScamWarners.

It really depends on the scam. For a check scam, obviously they want the address to send you the fake check. For other scams, such as advanced fee and lottery scams, they normally just ask for it to make themselves look official and add creditability to their story. You will often find that they add the details to the fake documents they produce.

Some scammers might try to sell on the details that they get for identity theft, but most won't do anything with the details that they get.

As B8er suggests the address is just another question on their big long list of official looking questions to ask, much the same as why they bother to ask your occupation, it is irrelevant to them but they think it looks good to ask it.

Of course they do use the address sometimes as B8er also mentioned but I think the vast majority of times it is just for show

Hi there, I'm Kristy.
I didn't even know this site existed until just now. (literally) I normally would have just deleted the email that was sitting in my SPAM folder but instead decided to read it, no clue why. I am glad I did, It was a warning about a company that had recently contacted me. Though I had an idea that they were a scam, I am thankful that there are people helping to watch out for others!
I have been working with the FBI on a case where the perp tried much of the same tricks that this company I was warned about, seemed as though they were ready to do. Same wording, same promises,.. everything was the same.. Except names, websites (that don't exist) and contact details.
If I may.. Would it be possible for me to place warnings here as well when I come across scams?

I get targeted a lot by these bogus companies, mostly I just delete them from my SPAM folder and never open them at all. The ones I typically read are the ones that come to me through other sites that I'm a member of. Promising a lot... but usually I laugh at them in the end b/c I figure them out.
I never give them any personal information as I just simply don't trust too many people on line.

Certainly you may. It means that potential victims can find them with an Internet search.

As Arnold has said, yes, please do post scammer's emails here for others to find. Also, let us know about these fake websites as they come up. We can get them shut down.

Please do reply to the individual warner who emailed you in case they don't see your post here, it will let him/her know that you are safe.

I know not all my warnings this am went to spam because I've heard back from several but I hate to think that any of them did!

I get a lot of junk, so I have set my spam controls very high, but don't have them personally deleted b/c I do get some important things from people who either change their email address or folks like YOU I'm glad I didn' delete it and was able to contact Julet and let her know that I had read her warning, and joined your forums
