Hello,

i am also selling my 98 Honda Civic and posted it onto Kijiji (canada) and i have gotten a few people txting me asking for more details and to respond via Email.
emails as follows...

1>Well in regards to the Vehicle am very much interested in buying it from you so you don't have to look around for any other buyer again. I am actually buying it for my Parent at home in British Columbia as a surprise and before i can get it sent it to them i have to make sure the its in a good condition . I hope you understand my point that there is no way i come to do the inspection of the Vehicle my self as have said earlier besides the Car will be picked agent that will be coming over to pick the Vehicle up and transported to British Columbia where my Parents stays, So whatever you tell me about the good and the bad aspect of the Vehicle is what i will believe and also inform the Pick-up agent
After have completed the payment the agent will contact you about where and when the pick up will take place and they will also be of assistance to do the change of ownership when they get there. but before i proceed with the Payment is there is any problem which you're yet to mention that i should know , please let me know now meanwhile can you please please take the add off online now till we complete the transaction
please send me your PayPal email and i will make the Payment right now
Emma

2> Sounds great ,thanks for your reply and hope you are not a dealer? i admit that your ads already explained much with regards to the conditions & i think it worth more as much as setting up a time will be the best but that's impossible right now, i hope you will understand, it's my first time to buy a vehicle online ,so please your honesty is very paramount to me, trust is key ,am assuming that you must have had some other buyer's interested in buying the vehicle from you due to the high views on Kijiji & i think the best way to outbid all of them is by offering you an additional sum of 700CAD to your asking price, Just to let you know,I'm buying it for my retiring dad.,as a be-elated surprise gift. But to start with i won't be available to eventuate the inspection my self due to my international chef training transfer, please eat more food...LOL,a courier agent will contact you on where & when the pick-up will take place after i have completed the payment, could you please tell me more about the present condition + tires (road worthy),Kilometers is confirmed from the adds, others that you can remember ?i will greatly appreciate your response so i can further with the purchase & payment immediately.

Hi thanks for responding.
What type of details can I give you that I haven't already posted?

3>Thanks for the swift response...I am OK with the asking price.due to the nature of my job and location...i will not be able to come for inspection,am a very busy type as i work long hours everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it.As for the payment..i will be paying you via the fastest and secure way to pay online(PayPal).I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the payment have been made ...so no shipping included. You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and also include your address in your reply. If you don't have a paypal account, you can easily set up one...log on to http://www.paypal.com and sign up.all i really need from you is the exact details.Kindly delete the posting as am definitely buying it from you and it would be sad for me to make the payment only to be formed of the its sale.

This person is still using the same spiel about posting in Gibraltar he is now selling Audi a2 in Friday ads.he is using the names sgt David Mathew. Sgt marwer Jackson. Plus Edward Shute . Advert looked good sounded good but he should learn to spell a little better. I got replays about the car from 2 of the names above about the car so I started having a little fun with them had them running around the houses trying to get money from me in loads of ways .found your web site yesterday and must say its great @ will spread the word great to have some one to help us with these scum bags.ps why do Friday ads still run these advertisements.

Just as long as they get their fees, eBay will do diddly squat to combat fraud. We just have to rely on excellent sites like this.

I have had the same attempted scam - the text in the email being almost identical

Hello,
I apologize for the delay, I'm in the military and that's why I couldn't reply in time. I don't have access to a phone, so we will communicate through e-mails. Anyway, thank you for your interest in buying my car... I was deployed yesterday in Gibraltar and I think I'll stay here for a while that's why I'm selling it so cheap. I intend to buy a new car when I'll get back home. I will use a third part to sell this car (PayPal or Escrow.com). Let me know if you are interested in a purchase.
Thank You
Sgt. Marwer Jackson

Followed up by second email

The tax and mot it's available until may 2013 for a quick sale will take 2500 payment only today ! Before leaving I had prearranged shipping and the payment with PayPal (the most secure way to pay and get paid) so my presence isn't necessary(The car is at our Northwood Headquarters, Hertfordshire HA6). The Logistic Department will deliver the car to your home. The price includes all the shipping costs and insurance, so you won't have to pay any extra charges. Since I work with the Army the delivery process is not an issue, I'll have the car shipped at your home address in maximum 2 days.
Here is what I suggest: we will use PayPal services, you'll make the payment in an PayPal managed account trust fund ( they'll hold the money until you'll receive the car ), I will send the car over( the car will be delivered with the owner's manual, service records, and of course the bill of sale authorized and signed by me),I will offer a 5 day period from the day you'll receive the car , you can inspect it, take it to a mechanic to check it out, drive it and then if you decided to keep it, you'll confirm to PayPal the sale and they will send the payment to me. If, by any reason, you will not be satisfied with it ( even though I can assure you that it is exactly as described), you can return it at my expense for a full refund of your money, no questions asked .Please note, that the return of my car will be made, only after you will get your deposit back. I think this is more than fair for the both of us.
The payment is refundable, and is just a security measure, to make sure that the buyer is serious, and that I am not going to ship the car, and loose time and money. Your payment is 100% covered, because I have open a Trust Account with PayPal and if something goes wrong, you will get a full refund from my account. If you are interested to go ahead with the deal, please reply with your full name, phone # and shipping address so I can ask PayPal to open a case! After, they will contact you explaining all the details regarding the payment.
I'm looking forward to hear from you.
Sgt. Marwer Jackson

REMEMBER IF SOMETHING SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT USUALLY IS!!!

Thank you so much.....my spider senses were tingling the minute I started enquiring about Mitsubishi Shogun supposedly in Leeds but now at Northwood Headquarters, Herts because Sgt Jack Marwer was deployed from Gibralter etc etc!!! Only by posting on sites like this can we hope to stop their racquet. Reported to Friday Ads....not impressed that they are still managing to list on here!!! Also contacted M.O.D....not sure what they can do, but perhaps if they start publicising this fraud??

I did take this crook (and one other posing as Julie Whites on Exchange and Mart) all the way to getting their bank account details thinking, naively, that the police would be able to track them down via these details and prosecute. Sadly a visit to my local nick showed how pointless that exercise was. Apparently all too often these bank account details are a company or other and so who exactly is the criminal? What crime has been committed? How do we know that they don't actually have the vehicle (yeah, as if). Seems that the Crown Prosecution Service in the UK only prosecute when they are on a dead cert otherwise the way that our courts seemed stacked in favour of crooks, it is seen as a pointless exercise.

I also looked at the IP addresses of both crooks and one is clearly using a proxy server.

Small wonder then that people take the law into their own hands.

I hear and share your frustration Countryman. That is part of why we do what we do here on ScamWarners. Plus if we can help people BEFORE they are a victim, we are the winners.

The checks / cheques, they use are stolen data. Thank you for being a member here.

Almost fell for this scam but something didn't sound right. Once Paypal was mentioned plus advising that was happy to ship free of charge a car which was low mileage, really low price and only 2007 registered from Southern England to Scotland.....alarm was going off, please see e-mails below from 'Farley Fox'
Good evening, You have a Kia Sportage for sale, can I ask is it still for sale and what condition it is in, also can I confirm mileage and price. Thanks. Angela
Hi there,
The car is still for sale. It's in excellent condition, the bodywork is immaculate,no scratches, dents or hidden defects, also the interior is in excellent non-smoking condition, never been involved in any accidents. HPI clear, full service history, MOT and tax till 06.13. The price is £3,500.
Thanks for your interest.
Cheers,
Felix

Hi, Still interested can I contact u by phone to discuss, thanks for getting back to me. Angela Sent from my iPhone
Hi Angela,
I am from Hambrook , Bristol, but I was deployed last week in Dhekalia, Cyprus and I think I'll stay here for a while that's why I'm selling it so cheap. I want to find a good home for it, not to forget it in the garage, so this car could be yours.
Being in the Military, I don't have access to a phone for personal business, so we'll talk through e-mails.I will try to reply as soon as I can.

I will use Paypal to sell this car safely since I'm not able to make the sale in person, so I'll propose you a fair deal. We'll use protection from Paypal for both of us at the same time. Let me know if you are ready to buy this car and I will give you more info.
Cheers,
Felix
Hi Felix,

Thanks for getting back to me, definetly interested, I would definetly give her a good home, I am up in Scotland, can you suggest how best to see the car, obviously I would want to see what I was buying before paying through paypal. Is there someone in Bristol perhaps who is dealing with this for you whilst you are in Cyprus?

Thanks.

Angela
Hi again and sorry for the delay,
Before leaving I had prearranged shipping and payment with PayPal (the most secure way to pay and get paid) so my presence isn't necessary. The car is at our Headquarters from Grantham, Lincolnshire. Needless to say this is where I got suspicious that this was a scam and decided to do a little bit of investigation, hope this helps others who might find themselves in the same position as I did today. Also just to advise it was a car advertised on Fri Ad.

email from [email protected] is a scam artist. His email
I just got your message. i am in love with this truck and I will be paying $9.500 but I am at sea at the moment as I am an oceanographer and due to the nature of my work, visiting of website and calls are restricted but I squeezed out the time to check out your advert and send you an email regarding it. I will be paying you through PayPal as I wont be opportune to pay for it my self so if you are interested in selling it to me please get back with the following - Your name and PayPal email address so I can make the payment. My private courier agent will come over and pick it up at your home or specified location after payment clears. Don't bother about shipping, no shipping.
Do not deal with this man!!! Report any info you get from him!
He texted me first which I thought was strange, cell phone's do not work at sea no coverage.
I know this from experience!
