They probably belong to someone else. Is there anything we can do with these scans to help prevent further victims?
You are correct, the driving license and passport will not belong to the scammer. They will have taken in from a victim and worked the details into the scam or altered the documents to look like they belong to the character they have created. Posting pictures or documents is encouraged it often helps illustrate the techniques scammers use. Be sure to deface as instructed in the topic area above.

Sadly, once a document is on the internet, there is nothing that can be done to remove it from circulation. The best we can do is educate, warn and support. Your post helps bring up the wisdom in not sending identity documents to people you don't know where it might end up.
