Hi, i was scammed on the 24th novemeber by this so called 'evelyn' to buy a doosan solar mini digger. £4300 out of my account, ive been on the phone to natwest numerous times (they are my bank account) and metro bank ('evelyn's' bank account) and got nowhere. I had a meeting with my local natwest bank manager and he didn't know what to do. I only found out a few days after i sent the money because i saw the exact same advert. I paid the money to the image provided. I feel embarrassed also and its all of my savings gone.

Bank Name: Metro Bank
Account number: 12779607
Sort code: 23-05-80
Beneficiary Name: Constantin Iftichi

They are still trying this scam going under the name of Emma Gristings. I responded to an ad on preloved for a Mercedes Vito camper van in Doncaster. Got directed to an email of [email protected] and then got a reply from an Emma Gristings "[email protected]. Email said about death of husband, and nearly being caught by someone with fake notes (as previously detailed in this thread). Said she is now in Peterhead, Scotland with van and sent me Private ebay listing sent to me - http://cgi-secure-ebay-co-uk-private-li ... rval=0&mPg. Emails just didn't read right, and when you click on the links "Add to watch list" it takes you to a car listing that has ended. I have reported to both pre-loved and ebay. Hope no one else gets caught out by them

Hi,
Saw an advert today on Piston heads for Land rover 90. Mobile no. not known so emailed owner. Reply was instant and identical to previous post. Emma Gristings recently widowed etc. Said advert was on ebay buy-it-now. Couldn't find it advertised and was smelling a rat by then. Googled name and hey presto! Like they say, if it looks to good to be true it probably is.

Just been contacted by the infamous Emma Gristings with the same story regarding losing her husband 2 months ago and requesting payment for a BMW 330 d into a holding account on Ebay as soon as I mentioned HPI and requesting the details and viewing all went quiet. Keep well away a rat for sure

Welcome to Scamwarners thornton.michael.

The fact that the scammer can supply an HPI means nothing as I got one recently from the same group which I have posted in the forum here along with the script. I think it's a large organisation operating in small groups who all use slightly different scripts and methods. Clearly they just get HPI certificates from other sellers.

Some use fake escrow sites, spoofed ebay pages or sometimes even hacked ebay pages. The bottom line is never to buy any car ever, without inspecting it first, no matter who you're buying it from. Though Autotrader UK host many top class car dealers there are also many more dubious dealers and it's foolish not to view a car you want to buy, but that's why the scammer has to make up any story he can to get you to part with your money first.

Any seller who doesn't realise he must allow a car he's selling to be viewed first is an idiot and anyone buying it faces the real risk of losing all his money. In fact, it's almost certain he will. There's not an ad site that isn't full of scammers waiting to steal your money.
