As I am not familiar with US military procedures of any kind I have no idea if the above procedure is common practice. However as his approach to me was unsolicited and his pursued of me followed predictable dating scam patters I became quickly suspicious.Needless to say that I didn't pay any of these funds so no damages has been done to me. But perhaps I have been one in a whole number of women who where approached. Rather than just disregard his advance i played along with them for a while because as a German women born 13 years after the end of WW 2 in the US occupied sector of Germany I have only the most highest regard for your forces and would like to express my gratitude to your nation and military for their sacrifice during that sad time in my home history. The sacrifice of your people enabling me to have a life free from the tyranny of the Nazi regime. Thank you profoundly. If i can now show my thanks by perhaps protecting the dignity and good name of one of you men than I am only too glad to do so. Regards **************

and Good greave of cause i didn't send money but instead reported scam to US and UN army comands and also filed compained with FBI. I think I scared them of too by suggesting that my replies where a sting set up.

i am looking for help...... my brother in law has recently come into contact with a woman who was supposedly in a refugee camp in africa... she said that she would send him a cheque for 250,000 euros for helping to try and get her out... however the catch was that he had to pay £3,000 to recive the cheque. he has now sent the money and coincedently there is a problem, DHL are not insured to carry that amount of money at any one time. this womans name is 'DIANA ZIKAH', she has also claimed to be inheriting £4 million pounds from her late father... he has had many complications with trying to recieve this money. furthermore she has claimed that a priest has been keeping hold of the cheque, this was clearly to gain in trust, as you all know a priest is meant to be someone you can have faith in and TRUST. i am trying to search for this woman however i dont know what internet dating site she is on. if ANYONE has heard of this type of scam before please please try to post me on this page, it would be greatfully appriciated,

I'm sorry your brother is being scammed--and that is a bog-standard scam you are talking about there. There are dozens of examples of the "stranded in a refugee camp need help getting my money" scam here on scamwarners alone.

its awful how people actually scam lonely hearts like that, they are attacking vulnrable people and it isnt fair..... is there any possible way to prevent this happening in future? its been so difficult trying to track this woman down, she could even be posing as a man! its a total joke! he has been ripped off and has fallen for it all..... what else do you think i should do?? x

In most of these cases, the person on the other side of the letters is not a woman at all--it is a young African man who is using copied photos of a young woman. There may be a woman (sometimes part of the gang, sometimes a girlfriend or friend of the scammer) who handles phone calls, though some scammers simply use voice-changing software.

If you can't post "her" emails and info here, there are several things you can do.

If you can get the photos "she" is using, you can try to search for them on these two sites:
www.tineye.com
www.scamdigger.com
You may find they are being used in multiple scams.

If you have access to "her" letters, pick several phrases and sentences and google them (in quotes). These scams are generally scripts the scammer uses again and again. If someone else has already reported them here or somewhere else, you may be able to show your brother proof that he is being scammed.

If it says something about "neither the colour or distance matter," then you will literally find hundreds to thousands of Senegalese scammers come up as a match!

Also google any email addresses and phone numbers involved in the scam.

We can also help with a warning, but we do need more information about the scam in order to do that.

Started getting Facebook messages from a Edwards Williams today and something said it didn't seem right. He sent me this:

It's a scam all right. The writing is African, and soldiers who are leading troops don't have time to send strangers messages on the Internet.
