Wow ~ I wandered over to london craigslist > housing > vacation rentals to take a gander at the postings. In today's alone (so far) it's wall-to-wall scam ads - no need to take a number, just step up to the wicket and shell out your cash. It's positively obscene. (Sorry, folks - just *had* to say something.)

I just spoke to them too then realized it must be a scam... prices just too good to be true and got aggressive when i asked questions.

This scam gang is operating from the north of England and I will be submitting a full report to the police on the activities of all gang members and the bank accounts they're using to receive money. In spite of the attempts they've used to obfuscate the accounts, they're all traceable. These aren't the brightest lightbulbs that have ever been plugged in to mains electricity, and hopefully that's what'll be done with them.

Referring to these scammers as blithering idiots is probably more praise than they deserve.

The tragedy of them stealing victims' money is bad enough, but the hilarious truth is that they have made a real mess of the payment details.

The IBAN doesn't match the bank account and sorting code. Perhaps they are being smart but then they are clueless about how banks operate and don't realise that messing with the instructions lessens their chances of getting any money considerably. Over 20 years in an international bank gives me several advantages.

Most of the money they steal is going to end up stuck who knows where.

I can make a reasonable presumption of where they intend the funds to go so, their intent of obscuring the details fails, and also makes it much less likely they'll get any money at all.

All I have to do is compare other scam payments mentioned on the web and I can pick up the details that never change, and then I know which account to report, unless they purposely misdirect some of their money, but I'll easily spot them and scammers are too greedy to do that.

Easy peasy.
