Hi
I am looking for somewhere to rent on Gumtree and was offered a place that seemed 'too good to be true' in my desired area, complete with 'wow' photos. I was hoping it was real but have just been asked to Western Union some money to a friend etc :( So I thought I'd report it to you guys, looks like you have other reports of the same scammer on your site already.

The name given was Monia Puente and the email address [email protected]. She said she was a fashion designer living in Birmingham, busy with fashion week and hence unable to travel for a viewing unless I could prove I was 'serious' by Western Unioning the first months rent and deposit to a friend and then scan and send the transaction details to her. I was also sent a mobile number 07956010336 with a warning that she had network problems but can receive text messages and then call me back.

It really did seem completely realistic initially, as they had obviously researched the small geographical area I am looking to live in, giving me a genuine address of a nearby street etc.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome, flaka. I am glad you realized this was a scam and didn't lose any money. I see we have the phone number you are reporting 07956010336 being showing up here too: http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewto ... 39&t=14526

Sending the money via Western Union is always a good indication that it is a scam and certainly sending the money to show you are 'serious' is definitely a scammer trick.

Well done and I hope you find a legitimate place to live that you will be happy with. :D
