Help Getting Leave scam
  • In this scam the fake soldier will tell you that he would like to meet you but in order to do that he will need to make an application for leave which will require a fee to be paid.
  • You will be introduced to other characters played by the scammer, supposedly his superiors or other government officials, who will tell you that fees such as a "replacement officer fee" need to be paid (often by Western Union or Money Gram) to various departments or officials such as Department of Defense or Homeland Security.
  • After you pay the fee, the scammer will give you a new reason as to why he can't be with you, requiring you to send even more money to overcome this fictitious obstacle. This cycle will continue as long as the victim is willing to pay.
Important facts to note about Military leave:
  • Military leave is not bought. There are never fees to be paid before leave will be granted.
  • A visit to a boyfriend/girlfriend/fiancee would not qualify as emergency leave.
  • An outside person can not apply for leave for someone in the US military. Only the soldier can apply, through official military channels.
If you are corresponding with someone who claims to be from any branch of the US military, and he asks you to complete ANY military forms, or you are contacted by any "military official" in relation to him/her, it is a scam.

Here are a few of the emails received (trying to obtain the scripted ones):

Lilian wrote:Am sorry i am just replying, i just came back from the admin block, and i was told that its the person am going to meet that has the right to request for my leave from my CO, so i got the CO email address here, so if you want me to give you, please let me know, so that you can send him a simple email requesting for the leave on my behalf, and you will tell him when exactly you want me to come.

I dont understand why the pics keeps coming to you so small, anyway dont worry, you will see the whole of me soon. I cant wait to see you. In that pics, its just a style. Do you like the pics? I still have more pics here, but i wonder why those pics keeps coming so small to you.

if truly you care about me and you truly want me to come home to you, you will help sort that out, its just a payment that i have to make so that i can get my liberty pass. i am not forcing you to do this, i would have done it myself, its just because there is no western union office here.

We received your request for leave on behalf of Sergeant Lilian Wesu and the leave request has been initiated. We need for prove to show that both of you are committed and know each other because our record shows that Sergeant Lilian Wesu has not gone on any leave since her deployment to Afghanistan. We need you to provide us her personal ISAF number. This number is confidential and only she can give it to you. So we want you to send this number to us to confirm that you truly know each other. Also, the leave request is going to incur some charges to cover logistics, knowing fully well that communication will be between the United States Army,ISAF and British Army.So let us have the ISAF identification number and we shall confirm the leave request.

I have the same person who is using a Sgt Petra Kent ([email protected]). They are using the same line of having to pay using Western Union to buy her leave.
In fact she must have a cut and paste of the spiel that she gives everyone because it's exactually the same.

British Army [email protected]

Attention:

We received your request for leave request has been initiated. Our record shows that Sergeant Petra Kent not gone on any leave since her deployment to Afghanistan. The leave request is going to incur some charges to cover logistics, as you know fully well that communication will be between the United States Army,ISAF and British Army.

Also an Administrative and Logistics charge of £ 475.00 British Pounds is to be paid to cover Logistics knowing fully well that communication is between the British Army,ISAF and the United States Army.

The Command Headquarter only accepts Western Union Money Transfer as our form of payment, so the administrative charge of £ 475.00 British Pounds should be sent through Western Union Money Transfer to the Logistics Manager in the British Army.

Here are the details, And you are to get back to us with the transfer details via Western Union so we can process the leave and provide you with the leave date and further in-formations.

I am a nobody, got nothing impressive to offer;not a prince charming nor a fairy tale Man. All i have and can give is my tender heart. Only hope and pray that it is enough to get me by in the road of love. I believe that love is a crime i. e an accomplice is needed to love; but not all are willing to commit the crime of for me, I live to love, to experience the magical feeling that love gives, to give my heart, my soul, my everything. I long to live my life for something worhtwhile love for it is like oxygen, the very essence of life. Much time is wasted on frivolities and trivialities and chasing after the wind and if there"s one lesson i have learned in life, it is that u got to make d most of everything for life in itself is never ending and coming to love is what makes life eternal. Indeed, the greatest lesson

I too have been scammed by someone posing to be Lieutenant Chris Duke and he has maintained email correspondence with me for a few months now. Then he said he was going to apply for leave, which he is entitled to. Then he asked if I would write to General Lloyd J Austin at [email protected] on his behalf to request a leave for him. I did so and received a reply back in a few days. It was approved but something stuck me as very odd. The letter said "the two-month leave for Lt. Chris Duke has been approved! Congratulations!" To my knowledge the phrase congratulations is inappropriate given the context of the letter. It also told me that I would have to pay a processing fee of $ 4,605.USD. That got me wondering why would the US military charge a private citizen a fee of that magnitude for a leave that the officer is entitled to in the first place. It must be a scam as I have read the numerous posts here on Scamwarners from people that have had similar experiences. Thankyou for opening my eyes!!!
