got a warning about this at work today. Basically a variant on the recovery scam.

Contact is usually made by telephone. Claim to be working on behalf of major UK high street banks & advising that current account charges you may have incurred are to be refunded. They request details of your debit card for payment of administration charges.

Most UK banks aren't that good about giving money back :D & certainly wouldn't employ a 3rd party!

Point of thumb is that if you ever get a telephone call from a bank, don't act on it unless you get it in writing.
Don't do any business over the phone after an unsolicited phone call. Ask for a letter. Don't give out your address or any personal details - if they're genuine, they should already know who you are!!

Any letter that comes should have your details on it and these should be details that only a genuine bank has.
For example, your full name and address, your account number, your bank's full address sort code, etc.
You can then compare this with other correspondence that you've received from the bank and tell if it's correct or not.
