I've been talking with this guy since November 28th, we met on Match.com. Last night I "pulled the plug" on him because the day before he asked me for 900$. Of course I refused ! He supposedly lives in London UK, a 47 yr old widower with an 11 yr old daughter. He said he was going to China on a business trip for the company that he owns, sent me the flight details and everything and 24 hours after being in China, he tells me that he's now in Malaysia because business isn't any good in China. I have 2 phone numbers for him :

He was supposed to be coming here to Canada in mid February, he even sent me the confirmation email from KLM

I really liked this guy, please tell me I did the right thing...

You absolutely did the right thing. There is no doubt that this is a scammer.

The person you have been in contact with is almost certainly a young African man who has been in Malaysia all along (there is a large cell of African romance scammers operating in Malaysia on student visas.) The 4470 phone number is a forwarding number which tells me your scammer has never been in UK. Calls to these numbers can be forwarded all over the world, and scammers pretending to be in UK use them routinely.

These scammers often reuse the same scripted emails even when they change names, so posting the emails he sent you (remove your own info) may help even more people to avoid being scammed.

As for the scammer, simply cut of all contact with him.

Hey, don't beat yourself up about it - some of these guys are professional. It's not that you are not intelligent, it's just that you trusted someone, and there is no shame in that. The shame is on these lowlifes, who not only want to take every penny you have, but also have no conscience about breaking peoples hearts while they are at it. It's easy for an innocent genuine person to get sucked into their games. You are genuine,and honest and therefore you think that everyone is the same. Unfortunately they are not.

It does take some time to get over the emotional damage scammers cause. As Teacake said, these people are professionals at getting people to trust them.

I am sure you had no idea that there are people like scammers on the internet. You probably had no reason to suspect that people like that exist. It is not that you are stupid, you did not know what to beware of. Sadly, thousands of people fall for scams every day.

We are pleased you found us and have broken free from the trap the scammer set for you. do things to celebrate your freedom. Find an activity that is positive for you.

10 days after I "pulled the plug" and deleted and blocked him from my computer at home, this morning he wrote to me at work...

Scammers are persistent and many will pursue you like that. It certainly can be unsettling. Just block and if it becomes a problem, you may need to speak to your IT department.

They really, really, really want your money.

Hey I just saw the e-mails on John Berth Koslov. Unbelievable!!! The guy did the same with me. We met on Match.com in February 2011. He sent me the same e-mails, same story. He was using another e-mail address back then: [email protected]. He also sent me a copy of his flight schedule from KLM, he said he was coming to see me and never showed up. I cannot believe he used the same story. Business trip to Malaysia, needed money to send to his suppliers. Got stucked in Amsterdam and had to go back to London. The guy stopped calling me by August and then started contacting me again under the e-mail address Alyette mentioned. This message is to Alyette: you're not stupid, these guys know what they are doing. He sent me a different passport, same date of birth, same nationality. Luckily, I met someone and moved on. I'm sure you will do it too.
About the pictures, the same girl on the picture (the daughter, he said her name is Ashley) different guy on the pictures.
I wish I had found this website before, it was really hard for me last year when he didn't show up because I really like this guy back then.

I know what you mean, it hurts to see pictures and the e-mails. Until you meet them it's going to be just beautiful words but at the end they are just words.
When this John guy changed his e-mail address to the one you have, he said he wanted a new start. Whatever!!! I'm glad you reported his story and I'm sorry that you have feelings for him. They are really good on making you feel special. This was his e-mail to me:
