The simple answer is 'yes'.

No person pledges undying love and affection after only meeting online, combined with a request for money and electronics. The two things don't go together.

The only time I pledged undying love to my wife I was at the altar, and I didn't ask for money to prove my affection. If he loves you he wouldn't risk that love by asking you for money. He'd ask a friend, use his salary or get a loan. Only scammers meet someone online and expect money.

Why would he be in Africa ?

He is a scammer and everything he says is a lie.

I'm happy you asked the question alleykat39.
As Terrance indicated, it is a scammer attempting to trick you out of your money. There is no doubt because a real man would never ask a lady such things! If you take the time to read other stories within the forums, you will see scams take a familiar and similar theme. In this case, you would be doing yourself good by simply ceasing all contact with the trickster. Give no rhyme or reason to the conman for no longer writing. They hate it and throws them into confusion. Whatever happens, do not confront the scammer, otherwise you'll be told more lies and deceit. Can you please publish the idiots email address and other relevant info. Also if you could post the email asking for money and/ or mobile phone would be excellent.

He is in Africa for one good simple reason. He's a 419 scammer and has lived there all his life and everything he's told you is a lie.

Scammers use Western Union because you will never be able to trace the person you sent your money to.

US soldiers have bank accounts and cards that enable them to draw money anywhere in the world.
