You CANNOT win a lottery you never entered. Australian lottery scams remain one of the most common email scams worldwide.
Current 2026 variations:
• Fake "Powerball Australia" wins
• "Oz Lotto International Program" notifications
• "Australian Government Lottery Commission" emails
• SMS messages claiming Tatts Group prizes
Red flags:
• You're asked to pay fees to claim winnings (real lotteries deduct from prize)
• Email from Gmail, Yahoo, or other free accounts
• Urgency tactics - "claim within 48 hours"
• Requests for personal ID, bank details, or "processing fees"
Fact: Australian lottery winners are contacted directly by phone, never by email. International residents cannot win Australian lotteries unless tickets were purchased in Australia.
