Same address as Hanks lottery scam, what can I do to get off this person's list

To get off the list, ignore all those messages. I was on a sucker list for a year or more, but they did give up.

Many scammers work in groups. It is not uncommon for those groups to run several different types of scams, simply because doing so increases their chances of getting money.

Scammers, like spammers, also sell and/or share email addresses with other criminals. When your address has been picked up on scam lists, it is not uncommon for your address to get a wide variety of scams.

For example, I deal with the main email address for a non-profit organization. Because that address is posted on the internet, it has been picked up by the many bots that are used to pick up email addresses for spamming.

In the last 5 days, that address has received the following (writing tells me they are African) scams:
-recovery scam
-fake inheritance scam
-fake "claim your atm card now" scam
-fake mystery shopper job offer
-fake personal assistant job offer
-lottery scam

Depending on your email application, you can start training your spam filters by marking each of these emails as spam. If they are stopped by the spam filter they will be sent to your spam folder or trash before they can bother you.

Sometimes they are both, but in many cases they are not.

Spammers send large volumes of unsolicited messages. Most often, these messages are advertisements, but they can be something else, like religious or political propaganda. Spammers are a nuisance, and some spam is also a scam, but not everything that is spammed is a scam. Many times scam emails are advertisements for real products or websites that were sent out by an unethical advertiser. Certain types of sites (for example, porn sites) are very prone to spamming.

But even if the company and/or product is real, anything advertised via spam emails should be considered highly suspect, and it is important to consider whether you want to do business with a company that feels spam is an acceptable means of advertising.

Scammers are thieves, plain and simple. Ultimately their goal is to steal your money, based on some promise they will never fulfill. Some scammers are also spammers, sending out high volumes of messages to random email addresses--but others don't use bulk emailing, but instead pick up targets on dating sites, classified sites, social networking sites, etc, and send emails to specific people based on their perceived vulnerability to the scam.
