Hi
My inbox has been rife with interest whilst selling my car on autotrader! Funnily enough they are all naval officers or marine biologist, it seems my car is the most sought after in the ocean!!! What follows is a list of email address claiming to be potential buyers via paypal without viewing and for a courier to take care of paper work ect! They're trying to scam the transportation fees out of u and have no interest in ur car!

Welcome to Scamwarners Toni2013,

They all sound like scam attempts. It is helpful if you post the emails they sent you along with the email address. We like to have an email to prove the address is a scam.

The scammer is simply trying to steal your money. There is not a transportation company, agent or mover. The scammer is playing all roles. He is just typing to you with a different email address. He want you to send him your money.

Sell your vehicle face to face in a public place.

I've had exactly the same experiences over the last few days with the following email addresses:

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

All of these people claim to work offshore and also claim not to have access to a telephone, nor internet banking despite "insisting" on PayPal being the method of purchase. They also all claim to be buying the car for a friend or relative and that they can organise a shipping agent to collect the car.

I expect that there will be many more of these before my advert on Autotrader expires.

Welcome annoyedbyscammer and Toni!

Whenever you advertise online, you're likely to run across quite a few emails from scam attempts. We're glad to have you contribute the information here so it will help anyone else who does a search on the information. As Bryon Williams said, we need the full text of the email included with the email address. Even though it's often the same text, it helps to have it posted as evidence and to have it searchable in case someone does a search on the wording instead of the name or address. Also, scammers will create new names and email address regularly, but often use the same email script so it's really helpful to have it posted.
Please let us know if you have any questions about the scams or listing the info. We're glad to help.
