I was contacted last year by Sgt Garreth John Massingale, he said he didn't want any money and we talked for a while. he ask for money for a phone 500.00 and i sent it to him. He said he was a widow with a 17 year old son wo had lung cancer. he wanted an early leave to go home to be with is son. he wife had also died of cancer. I have a lot of pic but sadley i don't think they are of him. he said his birthday was 4/20/63 . I am sorry to say i fell for it hook line and sinker and todate i have sent him 7,000.00. now he wants 1620.00 more. I am not sending it and i know my chances of getting any back is null. he ask about my family even talking to my daughter and my ex.asked about my dogs and i thought he was reall sincere.please any info would help me as yes i am a widow and am 71 yrs olds. I still have some of our conversations and i know he has five web sites.thank you for any help will wait for you to tell me what to do. oh and he said he was in afganstan. thank you popepeggy

Please post the messages he sent and his websites; they'll help other victims recognize it, and we may be able to kill the websites. It is a scam; no one in the military needs anyone outside the military to pay for phones, leave, or travel.

I am sorry to hear that you are being scammed (and this is definitely what is happening). Legitimate soldiers do not need to beg money from strangers on the Internet to buy phones and the other reasons for needing money will also be false.

Please can you post the email addresses he uses (and some of the early emails he sent as these will be scripted) and also the websites that he gave you as these will probably be fake and can be reported. Also, if any of the money was sent to bank accounts, please post the details of those as well.
